to The Timepiece Restoration Ltd UK Website
Welcome to the new home of Timepiece Restoration Ltd. Formerly The Timepiece,
of Newbury Road Gillingham Dorset UK. We
Specialize in Restoration and repairs of Antique Clocks, as
well as the sale of Antique Timepieces, often restored by us. We also
undertake trade work. Established
in 1973, and run jointly by Paul John George Stone CMBHI and his wife
Christine, the business has flourished with work being undertaken
for trade partners in the south west of the UK as well as trade from
the small shop open to the public still located in Gillingham, Dorset. Clock
making
has been in this family for many generations, and many of the
traditional skills Paul has learnt have been passed down to him by his
Grandfather. Paul used to work as a young boy, with his
grandfather, at the clock bench, helping clean parts and mending
clocks with the old master. The old master of course taking his
skills from his father before him, at their shop in London, where they
would maintain many of the public clocks, that are still running to
this day. After his Grandfather died, many of the tools and parts
were handed to Paul, and some of these tools, doubtless used to
maintain
some of the clocks in London are still in use today. He does of
course have new tools and modern technology to aid the tuning and good
timekeeping of what can sometimes be fickle timepieces. "Horology
is becoming a dying art, and to find someone that can offer the
skills and workmanship of a traditional clockmaker, with the modern
technology to fine tune these high precision instruments to provide
more accurate timekeeping than was ever possible before, is becoming
very hard. Timepiece
